This episode comes to you from quarantine here at HQ Woozle. I was unlucky enough to be in the supermarket for 10 minutes on Thursday at exactly the wrong time! I've had a Covid test this morning and depending on how the ACT Government counts to four, I'm either released as soon as I get a negative test result, or, I'm back for another industrial cotton bud up my nose on Wednesday. Watch this space.

One of the problems with writing quite a few episodes now is that I forget the songs I've played. But then, maybe if I put a song on here more than once it just means I like it. Band names are hard to choose. Some end up being ridiculous and some fit oh so well. I was in a rock band that I wanted to call The Flaming Penguins. Thankfully it didn't happen. Shaman's Harvest, however, sound to me just as their name suggests. The lyrics in this song, "There's a black bird, perched up on a black dog, and they're plottin' your demise...", really resonate with me at the moment. Maybe add in a black cat, broken mirror and a ladder to walk under.

Black Label Society is Zakk Wylde's band. Zakk's been around for many years now as a solo artist as well as a guitar player with Ozzy Osbourne for ages. He has a distinctive guitar tone and vocal tone (which can be polarising) however I wasn't prepared to see him making fun of himself in the video! Pretty amusing really. It reminds me a bit of the Weezer Buddy Holly clip. Great song too.

Even with the world in chaos this last week, news of the passing of Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts made a huge impression. More knowledgeable people than me can write about how influential he was or how he was an amazing drummer. I just liked the fact that he was understated and rock solid. The Stones would never have rolled without Charlie.

DJ KungFuRollins asked me which album I'd recommend for someone if they were to be introduced to KISS. My answer was Dynasty. It's their most commercial and probably most accessible too. What do you think? If you're recommending an album do you go for your absolute favourite or the one that is the biggest hit. Hits are hits for a reason! I listened to two new podcast episodes yesterday about Metallica's 1991 self-titled album (aka the black album). It was really interesting to hear them talk about the change in their sound, songwriting and approach to music in general with what would become their biggest record. Usually I like to start at the start if I'm checking out a band and I usually avoid greatest hits compilations as well. It certainly can make it interesting as some bands that are very well known sound nothing like their first couple of records.

I was in a discussion a while ago about the best version of the next song. Personally, I think that the original Simon & Garfunkel version is untouchable but I recognise that other artists love the song and have done some great covers too (like this and this). Here though is one I didn't expect. Other than the slide guitar being far too high in the mix the whole thing is fantastic.
